Cruise liner fire caused by fuel leak

The fire onboard the cuastal cruise line "Nordlys" was most probably caused by fuel leakking onto a burning hot engine housing, according to the Naval Accident Investigation Board.

During their investigation the Board found a fuel pump with loose mounting bolts, which most likely was the cause of the leak which ended in an explosive fire in the engine room.

Two crew members died in the fire onboard the "Nordlys" off Ålesund harbour on September 15th. Two others were seriously injured. All passengers were evacuated to safety.
