Winter weather causes traffic problems

Rough winter weather, with storm, snow and sleet caused long lineups on some mountain passes in Southern Norway on Sunday. Norwegian ferry passengers were stranded in Denmark.

On Sunday afternoon, motorists had to wait up to eight hours in line, in order to cross Hemsedalsfjellet via Highway Rv 52, from Eastern Norway to the West, NRK reports. By Sunda evening the waiting time had been reduced to two hours.

Highway Rv 7 across Hardangervidda was closed altogether Sunday, as was Fv 50 between Hol and Aurland.

Around 1500 Norwegian travellers were stranded in Denmark on Sunday, as the ferries between Denmark and Norway had to turn back and remain in harbour due to heavy seas.

Extra departures on Monday morning were expected to bring them back home later in the day.
