Wants to coordinate purchase of fighter planes
Barth Eide presented the idea as he was leaving the US Thursday evening, after he had met with Bob Stevens, chief of Lokheed Martin which manufacture the the F-35 fighter plane. The other countries interested in the F-35 are Great Britain, Canada, Turkey, Denmark and the Netherlands. Dutch Defence Minister Hans Hillen has also asked Norway and Denmark to cooperate in the purchase and maintenance of the new aircraft, NRK reports. Economic problems which may lead to defence cuts both in Europe and the US is an important factor in the efforts to coordinate the purchase outside the US, NRK writes. (NRK)

Norwegian Defence Minister Espen Barth Eide wants to try to coordinate Norway's purchase of the new F-35 fighter planes with other non-US nations which are interested in buying the aircraft.
