Voice support to the Jewish Community Oslo Bishop Ole Chr. Kvarme says the shooting against the Jewish Synagogue in Oslo is a serious attack against the Jews in Norway. Norwegian Muslims also voice support for the Jewish community.
Bishop Kvarme, who visited the Synagogue on and said:
- As representatives for the Norwegian State Church we will in the strongest terms distance ourselves from the action which has now been carried out against the Synagogue, and express our support to the Jewish Community (Det Mosaiske Trossamfunn) in this situation. - The act is unacceptable and objectionable, and the situation calls for increased attention against all tendencies of anti-Semitism. It is a challenge to all believers, regardless of religion and faiths, to encircle the Jews with our support, Bishop Kvarme said. The Islamic Council of Norway has sent a letter of support to the Jewish Community, where the Council expresses its disgust with the shooting. In its letter the Islamic Council states that it is important for minorities to stand together against such frightening happenings. The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, when 11 shots were fired against the front of the Synagogue. (NRK/Vaart Land) Rolleiv Solholm
