Rewiev of Treholt spy case this weekThe Norwegian Criminal Cases Review Commission (Gjenopptagelseskommisjonen) will this week decide whether or not there is basis for a review of the spy case against former diplomat Arne Treholt. The Public Prosecutor (Statsadvokat) Tor-Aksel Buschsaid at a press conference Tuesday that he had asked the Commission to review the case again, with special emphasis on the so-called money evidence. Two weeks ago, the author of a new book quotes police sources saying that the police fabricated photographic evidence used in the trial of former Norwegian diplomat Arne Treholt, who in 1985 was sentenced for spying. The author claims that a picture allegedly showing Treholt's briefcase with substantial sums of money in it had been fabricatded. There were also several reports earlier in the week, quoting sources claiming that this evidence had been fabricated. However, a former government official told the newspaper Vårt Land on Tuesday that he saw pictures of the "money evidence" in the Treholt case already in 1983, before Treholt was arrested, and that these pictures were different from the ones the police presented later.
