Radon problem not taken seriously
The Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority (Statens Strålevern) believes schools and kindergartens aren't taking problems with the radioactive gas radon seriously enough. 90.000 children are exposed to too high levels of the gas in schools and kindergartens. Too high exposure to the gas may lead to lung cancer. The government has set a maximum level of 200 bequerel per cubic metre of air. The radiation protection authority had long suspected that high radon levels were not being taken seriously enough in many schools and kindergartens.
