"Heatwave" on Svalbard
A temperature of seven degrees Celcius was registered at the Svalbard airport on Wednesday. this is a new record high for February on the Arctic archipelago.
It is the highest temperature for the month ever registered since regiistrations began in 1975. The previous record was six degrees Celcius in February 2005, Svalbardsposten reports.
The mean temperature for February at Longyearbyen is between minus 15 and 16 degrees Celcius.
