Øystein Mæland as New Chief of Police
”The choice of Øystein Mæland has provided us with a strong and direct leader who has broad experience and much knowledge about our Police,” says Knut Storberget, Attorney General. Mæland has a less traditional background than former police chiefs. He studied medicine and specialized in psychiatry, and has worked as the director of Oslo University Hospital. He also has political experience from his work with the Labour Party and position as State Secretary. ”He has an interesting background because he didn’t study law, and he also didn’t attend the Police Academy,” says Arne Johannessen, leader of the Police Union. ”In addition to his political and leadership experience, he has human qualities that will play an important part in his new role. ” (NRK) Julie Ryland
