Oslo seminar on marine littering

An international seminar on marine littering opens in Oslo on Tuesday. The conference wishes to address marine littering: What is the problem and what can we do about it, together?

The seminar is hosted by the organisation Keep Norway Clean (Hold Norge Rent), and will  especially address the issue of plastics in the marine environment and also highlight initiatives by the plastics industry.

The organisers say the aim of the conference is to point out strategies and solutions and inspire all stakeholder to join forces for further actions.

Key note speaker is the Norwegian Minister of the Environment and International Development, Erik Solheim.

Keep Norway Clean ("Hold Norge Rent") is a nation-wide effort to combat littering of public areas; streets and parks, lakes and beaches, mountain and forest areas, tourist attractions, roadsides etc. This is combined with the intention to improve waste management more in general (waste separation and recycling).

The campaign is launched as a joint venture between national and local authorities, NGOs and private companies.
