Norwegians open purses for Haitian victims

The major Norwegian NGOs have so far collected more than NOK 50 million from the public in their drive to collect funds to help the victims of the earth quake disaster in Haiti 10 days ago.

In just one week the Norwegian Red Cross has collected NOK 20 millon, while the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has collected more than NOK 12 million.

The NCA has not received amounts like this since the Tsunami disaster in 2004, says communication director Liv Hukset Wang.

Norwegian Save the Children Fund has so far collected NOK 10 million, and agree that they have seldom seen such strong public engagement.
