Norwegian surveillance plane against piracy

The Norwegian government has decided to send an Orion military surveillance aircraft to assist the NATO-led international fight against piracy in the Bay of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Defence Minister Grete Faremo says the plane will participate in the Ocean Shield mission for a three-month period in 2011, from October 1st till the end of December.

Norway will also contribute two staff officers to the NATO Shipping Centre, which leads the fight against maritime piracy, for a period of up to eight months.
