Norwegian soldier wounded in Afghanistan

A Norwegian soldier was seriously wounded when the Afghan/Norwegian field base in Ghormach in the Fayrab province in Northern Afghanistan was attacked by insurgents on Friday night.

The wounded man was evacuated to the Norwegian military hospital at Maimana, and later to the German hospital at Camp Marmal in Mazar-e Sharif. He is now said to be out of danger.

The Norwegian was working as an adviser to the Afghan army units in the area.

Camp Ghormach was attacked by both rocket driven grenades and small arms fire. Two of the grenades hit inside the camp, and the soldier was wounded by shrapnel. It was the eighth attack on the camp.
