Norwegian journalist set free in LibyaThe Norwegian journalist Ammar al-Hamdan who was arrested by in Libya by Muammar al-Gadhaffi's troops three weeks ago, has been released from prison, according to Ny Tid. Al-Hamdan, who is working for the Middle East TV cahnnel Al-Jazeera, as well as the Norwegian news magazine Ny Tid, was arrested on March 7th. Samir Shatera at the Al-Jazeera Oslo office says Al-Hamdan called him Thursday afternoon, to say he had been released, the first contact with him since he was arrested. - We are immensly releaved. He gives thanks to Norwegian journalist and press organisations who have helped keep Hamdan's story in the news. This shows that the pressure from the international society has helped says Ny Tid editor Dag Herbjørnsrud. Attempts are now being made to transport Al-Hamdan across the border to Tunisia as soon as possible, NRK reports. (NRK)
