Norwegian holidaymakers stranded

Around 3000 Norwegian holidaymakers are stranded at various tourist spots around Europe, unable to return home, due to the near total ban on air travel over central and northern Europe.

Also when the air space re-opens, it will take considerable time before the planes are back on schedule, since they are now spread all over the continent.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who was stranded, first in New York and then in Madrid, has now arrived back in Norway, after a 20-hour drive by car from Switzerland.

King Harald and Queen Sonja drove in separate cars to Copenhagen, in order to attend Queen Margrethe's 70th birthday celebrations on Saturday. The King has already returned to Norway, but he and Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre had to cancel plans to attend the Funeral of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife on Sunday due to the ban on air travel.
