Norwegian airline pilot honored

The Norwegian pilot Yngve Paulsen (36) from Oslo, has together with his  Flight Officer Michael Aguzino received the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Superior Airmanship Awards.

They received their awards for their extraordinary effort in performing an emergency landing after Atlantic Southeast Flight 5414’s left main landing gear failed to extend properly.

In June last year, Paulsen manaaged to laand his Atlantic Southeast Flight 5414 with 18 passengers onboard with only one of the main wheels and the nose wheel extended. The left main wheel was not down when he took the plane down on the Atlanta airport.

Prior to the landing, Paulsen had circled the airport for 45 minutes to get rid of the fuel.

All onboard escaped injury in the dramatic emergency landing, the newspaper VG reports.

The awards were presented at this week's ALPA’s 2010 Air Safety Forum's Awards Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
