Norwegian aid to Pakistani flood victims

The Norwegian government has allocated NOK 30 million in emergency aid to support victims of the latest flooding in Pakistan.

Development Minister Erik Solheim points out that this is the second flood disaster to hit Pakistan in as many years. He says the money will be used to secure clean water, tents, food and other basic needs.

- According to the reports, the situation is desperate.More than 10 million people are strongly affected, in an area with poor economy. The poorest will always be hardest hit, Solheim says.

The Norwegian aid funds will be distributed through UN agencies and Norwegian aid organisations already operating in Pakistan, like Norwegian Church Aid the Norwegian Poeple's Aid and the Norwegian Red Cross.
