Norway rejects extradition request by China

During his one day visit to China on Monday, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre turned down a request by the Chinese authorities for the extradition of terrorist suspect Mikael Davud.

Davud, a Uyghur from Northwestern China came to Norway as a refugee in 1999, and now holds Norwegian citizenship. He was one of three men arrested in July on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack in Norway.

The Uyghurs from the oil rich Xinjang province have long been regarded as a security risk by the Chinese authorities.

The Norwegian Foreign Minister is said to have replied that an extradition is not in the cards, and that Davud's case is now in the hands of the Norwegian justice system, Dagbladet reports.
