Lapse in security around government buildings

Several serious lapses in security in and around the central government office buildings in Oslo have been reported over the past several years, Aftenposten reports.

According to the newspaper, 23 incidents of major breaches of security have been discovered in the years 2009, 2010 and up to this fall.

Already in 2004, the Police Directorate was of the opinion that the security in and around the government buildings was insufficient. It stated that there was a high risk of someone driving a car with a bomb all the way up to the main entrance.

French terrorist expert Jean Luc Marret, from the John Hopkins University in Washington DC says the Norwegian Security Policy (PST) lack capasity to discover and analyse important information.

He says PST does not have enough staff to infiltrate suspect environments.
