Krekar hearing continues in court

Mullah Krekar stated in court that he will accept whatever sentence he receives, but that those who insist on having him deported to Iraq should be punished and killed.

"It is up to Norwegian law to accept me or reject me, but no one has the right to jeopardize my safety. Anyone who does this to a Muslim, regardless of who it is, deserves to die," he said in court Monday.

Krekar is facing charges for making several death threats, as well as terrorist acts. The Government in Kurdistan has repeatedly asked for him to be extradited, but Norwegian authorities fear that he could be executed. Norway is committed to international treaties that prohibit the expulsion of an individual without the guarantee that he will not be tortured or killed.

The defendant made it clear Monday how he would feel about being deported. "The counter-reaction won’t come from me. I’ll be dead already," Krekar explained.

Furthermore, he said that he can guarantee that if Norwegian authorities deport him to a place where people are waiting to hurt him, the persons responsible for his death will have to pay.

Erna Solberg, Leader of the Conservative Party, is one of the individuals Krekar allegedly issued death threats against. He said that if Solberg wants to send him home, she would also be held responsible for his death if he were killed.

The Mullah is also accused of threatening three other individuals, who now also fear for their lives. Krekar claims that he doesn’t want any of them killed, but that they have put their own lives in danger by not respecting the Koran.
