Calls Treholt major spy

- No one must be misled to believe that Arne Treholt was not a major spy, says former KGB colonel and double agent for the British M16, Oleg Gordievskij to the Norwegian newspaper VG.

As a double agent for M16 he delivered information regularly to the British from 1976 until he defected from the Soviet Union in 1985, only months after the trial of Arne Treholt.

The former KBG colonel informed the British about the identity of the Norwegian spy, and during the trial Gordievskij testified behind closed doors.

Gordievskij now says to VG that he is tired of the many attempts to whitewash Treholt.

The former double agent who today lives in Grat Britain says the dolllar bills that were used to pay Treholt for his services, were usually put on his desk, to be counted and registered.

Treholt refutes the idea that Gordievskij would have had the opportunity to check the dollar bills in this way.
