Agreement on farm subsidies
Agreement has been reached between the Farmers' Union and the Government on farm subsidies for 2009. The farmers have accepted an offer of an extra NOK 28,000 pr year. This amounts to a grant totalling NOK 1.2 billon. The original offer was NOK 950 million, while the farmers had asked for NOK 2.2 billion. However, spokesman for the Farmers' Union, Per Ole Ranberg, says the new agreement ensures a viable farming industry throughout the whole of Norway for the next several years.
