According to the magazine Lonely Planet, Northern Norway will "blow your mind" The famous travel guide has named the region one of the world's top ten regions to visit in 2015. "Northern Norway (Nord-Norge) will blow your mind with its heartbreakingly beautiful landscapes of glaciers and fjord-riven mountains, all bathed in crystal-clear light. Welcome to one of Europe's last great wildernesses," The Lonely Planet writes in its Best in Travel guide for 2015. The guide presents favourites within different categories, such as best regions, where Norway is listed, best cities and best countries.
Lonely Planet's recommendations are based on travelers' own experiences and reviews of the places they have visited, says Geir Solheim, Department Director of the Norwegian Hospitality Association (NHO Reiseliv).
"This is a guide that is created by the people who use it. So it is not a journalist who has single-handedly made this list. Instead it is each and every visitor's own experience that has made Northern Norway score this high, and that is very exciting," Solheim tells NRK.
2014 was one of the best years for Norwegian tourism ever. There is optimism for the travel industry in Northern Norway these days, and this kind of recognition will lead to more people considering Northern Norway as a travel destination.
Innovation Norway is also pleased with the Lonely Planet review.
"Once again Norway makes itself known at the very top of international rankings. This is proof that the marketing job that we do gets noticed," says Per-Arne Tuftin, Tourism Director at Innovation Norway.
