Foreign Minister critical of statement by FrP-leader

{jcomments off}{jcomments on} The leader of the right wing Progress Party (FrP) Siv Jensen warns against what she calls the on-going Islamification of the Norwegian society. Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støere (photo) says she only spreads fear.

- She has no constructive proposals for how we should live together in a positive manner, Støre said.

At FrP's annual meeting on Saturday, Jensen, pointed to the recent demonstrations against Dagbladet's printing of Mohammed caricatures, and said the Government was not doing enough to defend freedom of expression. She implied that the Foreign Minister was acting cowardly.

Støre commented that Jensen was selective when she spoke of freedom of expression: - She is for the freedom of expression in principle, but when it comes to a legal demonstration which she does not like, then she is against, the Foreign Minister said.

- The very idea of freedom of expression is that you have to tolerate things that you deeply disagree with, Støre said.
