Norwegian tourism prepares for tougher times

altThe financial crisis in Europe could make 2013 one of the toughest years ever for the Norwegian tourism industry.

"I see 2013 as one of the most uncertain years we have ever experienced when it comes to tourism here on the West Coast," says Kristian B. Jørgensen in Fjord Norge. He is trying to prepare for the worst.

The industry fears that 2013 could be one of the most challenging years for Norwegian tourism due to the economic uncertainty in Europe, combined with a strong Norwegian Krone.

Especially the rural areas will have to pay a high price for the financial crisis in Europe, explains Jørgensen.

Like last year, the travel industry will depend on Norwegians choosing to spend their holiday and money in their own country. "If not, we may lose jobs," says Wenche Salthella in the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise.

"We have to put our faith in Norwegians, their desire to travel and their purchasing power," Salthella tells NRK.
