Around 18,000 bikers take part in the annual Birkebeinerrittet between Rena and Lillehammer this weekend. Birkebeinerrittet is the world's largest cross country bicycle race. The course is 94,6 km long.
The start on Saturday is iin Rena and the finish in Lillehammer. All competitors must have passed 17 years of age as per December 31, 2012 and must carry a backpack of at least 3,5 kg throughout the race.

The Norwegian Food Inspectorate now believes that a smoked sausage from Gilde's daughter company Terina in Sogndal may be the source of the E.coli infection that has sent 13 children in Southern Norway to hospital with kidney failure since February.
