Winter Olympics: No medals for Norway so far

Norwegian ski jumper Anders Jacobsen had to settle for ninth place the individual normal hill event on on the opening day of the Winter Olympics at Vancouver on Saturday. Tom Hilde came 12th.

Swiss ski jumper Simon Ammann won the event, and secured the first gold medal of the Games. It was the third Olympic gold for 28-year-old Ammann. Poland's Adam Malysz came second and Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer third.

In the first speed skating event, the 5000m race, Norway's hopes for a medal were on Håvard Bøkko, but in the end he came fourth. Dutch world champion Sven Kramer won, setting a new Olympic record.

Lee Seung-hoon of South Korea won the silver medal, and Russian Ivan Skobrev claimed the bronze.

In the women's Biathlon 7.5km sprint, Ann Kristin Flatland was Norway's best with a 10th place.
