Handball: Norwegians rejoice over Gold

Norway's women beat Russia 27-24 in the final of the Handball EURO 2006, and retained their European Championship title, despite losing star player Gro Hammerseng(photo). Captain Hammerseng had to leave after just seven minutes after an injury to the Achilles' tendon.

However, left winger Kari Mette Johansen took over to become top scorer for Norway, firing home all nine of her attempts on goal, seven of them before the break.

Goal keeper Katrine Lunde also did her part in frustrating the Russians throughout the thrilling match in Stockholm.

- This is wonderful! Now we're ready for Beijing (Olympics)! said coach Marit Breivik to TV2 when the victory was ssecured.
