Sapporo: Astrid Jacobsen secures first Gold for Norway

Astrid Jacobsen (20) secured Norway's first Gold medal of the World Championships at Sapporo, Japan, by winning the women's cross country sprint on the opening day of the Championships on Thursday. Slovenia's Petra Majdic placed second and Finland's Virpi Kuitunen third. - This is a dream fulfilled, newcomer Jacobsen said to NRKSport after the race.

- But I am still looking forward to the Junior World Championships, she added. 

2003 champion Marit Bjoergen, who has won the last five World Cup sprint titles came fourth in her quarter final, and ended in 10th place.
