More new enterprises started

A total of 16 279 new enterprises were registered in Norway during the first quarter of 2012. This is 12 per cent more than in the first quarter of 2011, Statistics Norway reports.

The number of new private limited liability companies increased by 78 per cent compared to the same period in 2011. Almost half of all new enterprises in the first quarter of 2012 were private limited liability companies.

Most new enterprises were registered within construction (15.2 per cent) and professional, scientific and technical activities (15 per cent).

The figures include all new enterprises except enterprises within agriculture, forestry, fishing and public administration.

Honesty rewarded!

A 16-year old student, who found a handbag containing nearly NOK 500,000 in cash, left on a train seat, called the police, and will now be rewarded for his honesty. Walking down the aisle to find a set, he saw the bag, and when he opened the bag, he was surprised to find stacks of bills, wrapped in plastic. In the bag was also a passport, making it easy to trace the owner. The police say the bag belonged to an elderly man, who had just completed a business transaction.
