Conservative Party MP for Hordaland County, Henning Warloe (50), has allegedly abused drugs at least once a week for the past year. Party leader Erna Solberg (photo) has advised him not to run for another term next year.
Warloe himself gave the details surrounding the scope of his abuse in an interview Saturday.
"It might sound strange, but when I came to Oslo as a grown man, who has always felt in control and able to handle most challenges, I felt lonely and abandoned," Warloe told TV2 in an interview Saturday. He thinks that the feeling of loneliness was a contributing factor in his experimentation with drugs.
The police had found drugs in Warloe’s apartment last Thursday, and charged him with drug abuse. Saturday Warloe revealed that his drug abuse is more comprehensive than first suspected, and that it started four years ago.
The county leader for the Conservative Party (Høyre) in Hordaland, where Warloe is originally from and started his political career, is surprised by the recent revelations. "I am surprised by the scope of it," Liv Kari Eskeland tells NRK.
Warloe has already withdrawn from all political duties, except his position as MP. He will finish his term, but Leader of Høyre, Erna Solberg, has advised him not to run for another term next year.
There is always room for forgiveness, Solberg said, but added that drug abuse is simply not consistent with a party whose politics have a zero-tolerance for drugs.
"As members of parliament we have been chosen to make decisions about what is right and what is wrong, As a result, we, who make the laws, also have to abide by them," Solberg explained.
