Spends millions on election campaign

The Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees (Fagforbundet) is spending NOK 16 million on supporting the election campaign of the red/green coalition parties.

This is equal to the total election budgets of the Conservatives (Høyre) and the right wing Progress Party (FrP) put together, Dagens Næringsliv writes.

- It becomes a democratic problem when they (unions) enter the election campaign heavily with funds and their own campaign in a democratic election, says Dag Ekelberg of the Norwegian Employers' Confederation (NHO).

Jan Davidsen, leader of Fagforbundet says the union must be present on the political arena in order to defend the interests of its members.
