Financial support to controversial groupPublic broadcaster NRK has revealed that the youth branch of one of the most supressive regimes in the world has received NOK 400,000 in support from the Norwegian government.
The money was grantd to the Eritrean youth party, the Young People's Front for Democracy and Justice (YPFDJ).
This is the youth branch of the Peoples Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), which holds power in Eritrea.
The funds have been granted through the EU programme Active Youth, which supports a number of youth organisations.
The news has shocked Eritrean dissidents living in Norway.
- Norway is in this way maintaining the dictatorhip in Eritrea, says a spokesperson for the Eritrean Fellowship Asossiation in Norway.
The Oslo branch of the Young People's Front held an international conference at a hotel near the Oslo International Airport at Easter.
On Thursday it became known that four members of the Eritrean youth organisation has defected and asked for asylum following the Oslo conference.
