Member of Parliament, Ola Borten Moe (34) from Trondheim, has been appointed new Minister of Petroleum and Energy. He takes over from Terje Riis-Johansen who has chosen to step down.
Borten Moe, a farmer, is representing the Senter Party SP(Agrarians) in Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's three-party, center-left coaliton government. He is also expected to be chosen new SP leader this spring. His grandfather was also SP leader and Norwegian prime minister of a coalition government in 1965 to 1971.
According to NRK, Riis-Johansen has chosen to step down in order to become a candidate for the post of County Governor for Telemark in September. Nominations must be in before March 15th.
The outgoing minister has also had to front several controversial government decisions during the last six months, including the building of overhead power lines in scenic Hardanger and the new postponement of a CO2-cleansing system at the Mongstad gas powered electricity plant.
