Weekend: Letters to the Editor

The letters we have picked out today come from places as far apart as Virgina, USA and Tasmania, Australia. We also helped a 7th grader from Dayton, Ohio with her essay about Norway. We open with the letter from Virginia: Elizabeth and Carl from Bedford write: -We are excited about learning a little more about Norway from your articles, and enjoy hearing about what's happening from your point of view (as in the Austrian thing recently). -On the TV in the USA we only hear one side of what is going on. Thank you for keeping us informed. Then on to Tasmania, Australia, from where Harry writes: -I am writing from literally the other side of the world, after having read your online edition, and found it quite informative. -We all have the same problems with social welfare and commodities and farming! -My great, great grandfather came from Stavanger in the 1850's, (ALBERT EDWARD HANSEN or HANSON) and came to this part of the world, (which is a tale in itself), instead of America, like the bulk of other emigrants. Reading your newspaper online connects me to that part of my heritage, even though it is a very thin connection. Stay with us, Harry, and that connection may grow ever thicker! We're moving quickly, today! Now back to the US, to Michigan, and 'skipper' Robert who has followed our coverage of the 'Sleipner' tragedy, with interest. He writes: -By sheer coincidence, a friend of mine, just one week earlier, made a trip in SLEIPNER and could just as easily been on board for that fateful trip. She was visiting relatives on your west coast. -I've sailed twice in SV CHRISTIAN RADICH on our east coast and in Oslofjorden while I was in the U S Coast Guard and sailing in USCGC EAGLE, ex SV HORSTWESSEL, in the early 60's. I remember seeing CHRISTIAN RADICH in the film from the late 50's, 'Windjammer.' I have promised Robert that Norway Post will follow the tragic story of the 'Sleipner' till the end. Elswhere in the NP you will read today that the wreck will be raised in a couple of weeks. Finally, back to the 7th grader from Dayton who needed a Norwegian newspaper to complete her essay about Norway. She was in such a hurry that she forgot her address, and by the time I received that, it was Saturday and the Post Office was closed. But off it went, as soon as the PO opened early Monday morning! Anyway, it was worth the effort. You'll agree I'm sure when you read the letter I just received: -Hi- Thank you so very much! Your so kind! You don't know how much I'm thanking you! I think that my teacher will think this is really cool that we just e-mail to such a kind person and you just sent us a Norwegian newspaper! Not that I'll be able to read the Norwegian Language but... I can show my class Thanks again! -Diane With that we wish you all a good weekend. And don't forget- -Show others the Doorway to Norway!
