This has been confirmed by a spokesman for President Arafat.Petersen will according to plan visit the West Bank and the Gaze Strip Wednesday for talks with other Palestinian leaders, and the spokesman says Arafat also looks forward to meet with the Norwegian Foreign Minister.
Petersen also visted the Middle East in the middle of September, and was at that time criticized at home because he only met with Israeli leaders.
However, the Foreign Office pointed out that a visit to the Palestinian areas was planned for October, and assured the critics that Norway would in no way bow to Israeli threats to boycot foreign politicians who visited Arafat.
Three weeks ago, the leader of Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, Thorbjoern Jagland, met with Yassir Arafat in Ramallah. Jagland was visiting the region as leader of the Socialist International's Middle East Committee (SIMEC)
