Successful operation for Crown Princess

Crown Princess Mette-Marit on Friday had surgery on her neck to remove the herniated disc and alleviate pressure on the nerves in the neck.

An announcement from the Royal Palace said the operation at the Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet) was successful. The Crown Princess will remain at the hsopital for a few days.

Following a period of recuperation, the Crown Princess will embark on a rehabilitation programme. It is too early to determine whether her sick leave will need to be extended.

Her husband, Crown Prince Haakon is therefore cancelling his scheduled visit to Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
