Agreement on joint Nordic force in Syria

The Nordic Foreign Ministers have agreed at their meeting in Oslo that the Nordic nations will provide a joint UN-force in Syria, if they are asked.(Photo: Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende)

The situation in Syria was discussed at the Oslo meeting on Wednesday. The Foreign Ministers also agree that all effort must be made in order to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende says there has for a long time been a joint agreement within the Nordic Council to cooperate in such situations.

He underlines that before such a force can be deployed, it must be based on international law and the UN.
