Norway turns down Snowden's asylum application

The Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs has turned down US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden's appliccation for asylum in Norway on formal grounds.

According to Norwegian law, one cannot apply for asylum from abroad, and as reported earlier he was in Russia when he applied, says state secretary of the Justice Department, Pål Lønseth to NRK.

However, Snowden's application may be reviewed again, after the Norwegian PEN organisation has asked the Norwegian authorities to reconsider its decision.
