Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will travel to Houston in May to celebrate 40 years of Norwegian participation at the annual Offshore Technology Conference.
The trip to the OTC is part of a weeklong trip to the U.S, and their two days in Houston at the OTC are aimed at promoting Norwegian innovation.
The conference itself was founded in 1969, and focuses on the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection across the globe.
This year, the conference takes place from May 6-9 at Reliant Park in Houston. The Crown Prince couple will attend the official OTC dinner at Reliant Stadium the day before the opening, and the following day they will visit the OTC exhibition in Reliant Center and open the official Norwegian pavilion.
Including this year, it will be the 40th time Norway attends the conference since Crown Prince Haakon's father, then Crown Prince Harald, opened the first Norwegian pavilion in 1973.
This year's pavilion will measure 1,000 square meters, and feature 80 different exhibitors, making it the largest national pavilion at OTC.
Several other key political and business profiles from Norway will attend the event, including Norway's Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Ola Borten Moe. In total, the event is expected to bring 2,800 Norwegians to Houston, which could bring the Norwegian attendance to an all-time high this year.
