The Standing Committee on Scrutiny and Constitutional Affairs proposed a historical proposal of criticism against the Government, after numerous hearings about what went wrong during and after the terror attacks in Oslo in 2011.
The 40-page-long proposal was unique because several parties raised points of criticism against their own government. Yet, the parties were not able to reach an agreement, and three separate proposals were formed; one by the red/green coalition parties, one from the Conservative Party, and a third suggestion backed by both the Liberal Left and the Progress Party.
The government coalition parties put forward the mildest proposed criticism directed at the government. Although they used the word "worthy of criticism," they choose the word "authorities" rather than "government" when referring to whom the criticism is directed at, NRK reports.
However, the four opposition parties mde it clear that the Government is the target of their criticism, not the more vague "authorities".
Although the parties stand by their individual views, they said that they voted for the majority proposal to give a strong signal that all elected officials stand together in their criticism.
"It is a strength that we share the same story and a mutual understanding of reality," Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg tells NRK.
