Further decline for print newspapers - a move to the Web

The circulation of Norwegian print newspapers is falling. VG and Dagbladet experienced the steepest decline, and only local and niche newspapers increased their circulation.

The National association for media companies has published the official numbers for readers and circulation.

VG is experiencing the steepest decline at 23,234 copies, down to 188,345. This makes Aftenposten the largest print newspaper in Norway, with a circulation of more than 200,000 newspapers per day.

Meanwhile, Aftenposten's circulation also fell in 2012, by 9,814 copies.

In total, the circulation of all Norwegian newspapers fell by 3,8 percent. Single copy sales declined by 8,7 percent, whereas subscription declined by 2,7 percent last year.

Aftenposten heads its own story on the survey with "The Mobile newpaper tightens its grip".

It states that while there is a decline for the printed papers, the three largest dailies had an increase in readers of their digital outputs totallling 2.4 million mobile readers.
