The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) is being critised by many for its infiltration of radical left-wing groups in Norway.
A documentary on NRK TV Tuesday evening, told the story of a man who had worked for PST for more than 10 years. During most of this time, he infiltrated and monitored organisations on the far left wing of Norwegian politics. Information he collected was passed on to PST.
While posing as a dedicated left wing activist, the man copied membership lists and other documents, befriended people PST wanted more information on and participated actively in street demonstrations.
Ketil Lund, head of the Lund Commission, which investigated the possible illegal police monitoring of left wing organisations in Norway in 1994-1996, says that in hisopinion it is difficult to see that there is a basis for the PST to infiltrate the left wing groups.
- It is difficult for me to see that there is a basis for believing that Blitz and these international socialists are a threat to PST, Lund says.
The Socialist Left Party (SV) and the Labour Party want Parliament to look into the case.
