Tighter security at Ullersmo prison

At Ullersmo Prison north of Oslo, the security has been tightened, due to more serious crime and an increasing number of prisoners from abroad, Aftenposten reports.

All who want to visit the prison, including staff, must now pass a security control.

The prison authorities want to stay ahead and prevent the smuggling into the prison of weapons or mobile phones, which might lead to escape or new crimes, the newspaper writes.

Of the 190 prisoners behind the 7 metre high walls at Ullersmo, around 60 per cent of the prisoners are foreign citizens.
