Minister for Industry and Trade Trond Giske has called a rushed meeting with representatives for Norwegian industry to discuss risks and security for Norwegian firms operating abroad.
The meeting is called in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Statoil/BP gas plant in Algeria.
- The attack in Algeria is the most extensive terrorist attack on Norwegian industry and employees outside Norway in time of peace. We wish to discuss how we best may look after Norwegian companies in foreign lands, Giske says.
The largest union among Statoil employees, Industri Energi, has in a letter to Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg demanded that the terrorist attack in Algeria must be investigated, in the same way the July 22nd terror attack in Norway was investigated.
The Union also demands that the evaluation must lead to considerations and recommendations which should be presented to Parliament (Stortinget) in a separate white paper.
Union leader Leif Sande says it is apparent that the security around the In Amena plant had not been good enough.
