Massive Nobel Prize security

The Norwegian police estimate that they will be spending between NOK 10 and 17 million on security precautions in connection with the Nobel Peace Prize festivities in Oslo this week.

The costs could run even higher, depending upon how many state and government leaders who will be present, and how long they stay, the Police Directorate says.

So far, more than 20 EU heads of state and government leaders have annopunced that they will be present in Oslo in connection with the Peace Prize award ceremony at the Oslo City Hall (photo) on Monday.

The police have also warned the public that several streets in down-town Oslo will be blocked toordinary traffic, and adviced people to use public transport. Some street car lines will also be re-routed or cancelled.
