An increasing international interest for famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch has led to a steep increase in the the number of visitors at the Munch museum in Oslo this summer.
After one of Munch's versions of the famous painting "Scream" was sold at an auction in New York for NOK 697 million at the beginning of May, the number of visitors to the museum has increased.
"May, especially, was a very good month, with 15 percent more visitors than the previous year," the head of information at the Munch Museum, Sture Portvik, tells Dagens Næringsliv.
Although the numbers for June were slightly reduced due to a strike among security guards in the public sector and cancelled cruise ship visits, July's visits have already surpassed last year's for the entire month of July.
Although Portvik does not want to reveal exact numbers, he says that the number of visits for 2012 look "very promising."
