Forest fire still raging

A forest fire which started at Gyland near Flekkefjord on Sunday, was Monday morning still out of control. Fire fighters fought the blaze all Sunday, and managed to subdue its somewhat.

However, it is feared that it may again spread in the strong wind. 35 firefighters are in action on the ground, and several helicopters are dousing the dry forest, in an attempt to contain the fire.

On Sunday, several homes were threatened, but by consentrating their efforts, the firefighting crews managed to wet the ground and buildings enough to stop the flames in this area.

There have also been several smaller brush fires reported in Vest-Agder county.

There has been little or no rain, and the forest fire hazard is high in most of southern and eastern Norway at present.
