At its national congress this weekend, the Norwegian Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet) voted 170 against 125 to close down the fur farming industry in Norway.
The fur farmers will get financial compensation from the state during a change-over-period, the Labour Party says.
Labour's government coalition partner, the Socialist Left Party (SV) supports Labour on the issue, while the other coalition partner, the Center Party (SP) wants the industry to continue, with stricter control of animal welfare.
There have been several reports from animal welfare organizations over the last couple of years, of improper animal care at several fur farms.
The Norwegian Fur Farmers Association say they are disappointed over Labour's decision, but say they refuse toaccept this is the end of fur farming in Norway.
