Norwegian fire-fighters to Israel

The Norwegian government is sending a helicopter with trained fire fighters to assist Israel in fighting the forest fires which are raging out of control near the harbour city of Haifa.

Israel has appealed for international assistance in an effort to put out the fires.

- Norway is pleased to be able to contribute in the international efforts to fight the fires in Israel, says Foreign Minister Jonas Støre.

The forest fires which started in the Carmel Mountains south of Haifa on December 2nd, are said to be the largest in Israel's history, and are still not under control.
