In the early hours of Tuesday morning there were serious disturbances at the two state reseption centres in Eastern Norway, where refugees who have been denied asylum are held.
At the centre in Nannestad, Akershus county, windows were broken and fires started. It was reportedly a reaction to the conditions at the centre, as well as the Norwegian authorities and Norwegian asylum policy in general.
The police were quickly at the scene and were soon able to bring the situation under control.
Shortly afterwards disturbances were also reported from the Lier centre near Drammen. Fires were started, but were under control after a few minutes.
The inhabitants in both centres are living in Norway illegally, since their application for asylum has been denied. The temporary centers offer housing and three meals a day, as well as basic health services.
